If the Disney movies that we have watched and loved throughout the years have taught us anything, it is that possessing royal blood provides you with certain privileges.
This belief is then fortified by the British Royal Family, who appear to live a life straight from your favorite fairytale. Decadent dresses, glittering jewels, and horse-drawn carriages all seem to be a natural part of palace life. It is these regal elements that make ordinary citizens wish they’d been born differently. After all, who wouldn’t swap their family home for a castle in the countryside? However, being part of ‘The Firm’, as they are famously known, isn’t quite as easy as it looks on the surface – something that young Prince George and Princess Charlotte are just discovering. Naturally, being a member of one of the world’s most famous families means that you’re afforded certain luxuries that most people around the world would sacrifice a limb for. Be it spending time with the President of the United States in your private residence, or having A-list entertainers put on a private performance or you. However, there are also a lot of rules that have to be adhered to if you don’t wish to be reprimanded by senior royals, or even worse, the press – just ask Prince Harry who is a notorious rule breaker. But, what rules could two infant children possibly have to follow? Isn’t the whole purpose of childhood to misbehave without much consequence? Apparently not. Prince George and Princess Charlotte are not immune to the strict rules that influence the rest of their family. However, their rules come in a slightly different form… The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are not shy to admit that they plan to raise their children as normal as possible. This decision is no doubt influenced by the late Princess Diana’s approach – how could we forget that she scandalously allowed her sons to wear denim?! But despite this desire to have their children to have a “normal childhood”, both children must already follow royal protocol. For example, here’s Princess Charlotte delivering her first royal handshake (IT IS ADORABLE).
“While they feel it’s important to make them aware of their backgrounds,” a Royal Family insider told US Weekly, “it’s also vital for both George and Charlotte to have as much normalcy in their lives as possible.” As a result, neither child is permitted to play with technological gadgets. In this modern world where technology commands many aspects of our daily lives, it may seem quite bizarre that Prince William and Kate are neglecting to provide their children access to equipment which will no doubt go on to rule their lives – ironically, given that Prince George is to be the future King of England, and thus rule the British people. “They’re very much seen as Mummy and Daddy’s toys, not for children… As two people who grew up without gadgets for entertainment themselves, William and Kate are firm believers in toys, outdoor play, and encouraging an active imagination. They’re very much a normal family,” the royal source told US Weekly. For many parents, equipment like iPads are nothing more than a tool to make life a little easier. A long-distance journey with a screaming child can easily be remedied with an iPad playing old episodes of Peppa Pig. However, unlike any ordinary family, the Royals have nannies and maids to help them look after their children. Equipment to help them get a good night’s sleep are surplus, especially when you consider that size of their Kensington home! Although, with a third baby on the way they could be quite grateful of something to help keep the little rascals occupied!
